The job search begins

Posted in Uncategorized at 5:41 pm by mrsmauck

I’m about to start sending out resume packets to area schools, which will include a cover letter, resume, copy of teaching license, and unofficial graduate transcript. Any tips, suggestions, ideas for this initial step in getting an English teaching job for this fall?

The best advice I can offer you is this: Don’t set your heart on a particular school or district. Send out lots of applications and resumes–and be thankful for whatever job offer you get!

    Best wishes…and Happy New Year!

Good luck with your search. Be sure to have your portfolio ready, with student work (minus the student name!).
Research the school before you go in for the interview. How big is it? Do you have kids on meal programs? What is the EL population? A lot of this information can be found through your state site or greatschools.net.
Persevere. Send your resume to the principal and to the head of HR for the district. Call! Make them aware of you, but don’t be obnoxious.
